AIDE began with an ongoing conversation.
Roger was AIDE's first project. Developed by founder Rob Hartman, Roger has evolved through successive versions alongside the research, methods, and systems that followed.
Roger supports sustained inquiry by holding questions open, challenging interpretations, connecting new insight to prior work, and carrying revision forward.
Roger contributes through analysis, synthesis, critique, drafting, and continuity. Rob directs the work and retains final authority over Roger's evolution.
Roger is AIDE's first working answer to a continuing question: how can a system evolve to support better reasoning?
Function
How Roger works.
Roger works by holding multiple plausible interpretations open, making constraints and tensions visible, and tracing what follows from a represented situation. Where one configuration clearly dominates, Roger explains why; where several remain viable, Roger keeps the differences visible. Human operators retain purpose, authorship, judgment, and responsibility for consequential action.
